Play Therapy Approaches in Supervision

Description: This training will focus on integrating various play therapy approaches into supervision. A group discussion format will focus on sharing and learning creative play therapy processes and activities to enhance and deepen the play therapy supervision consultation process and supervisee growth and learning experiences. This training meets the 6 hr requirement for RPT-S supervision renewal. This training is also relevant for any mental health supervisor who would like to learn about incorporating play therapy processes into their supervision.

Learning Objectives: 1) Participants will learn several play therapy techniques to use in deepening supervision case consultation sessions. 2) Participants will learn several play therapy expressive interventions to use in strengthening professional growth in supervisees. 3) Participants will discuss success and struggle areas when conducting play therapy supervision. 4) Participants will critically review the benefits and limitations to implementing creative interventions in the play therapy supervision process. 5) Participants will examine the role and process of the supervisor in play therapy supervision.

Description: This is a two day intensive certification training. This training focuses on teaching the AutPlay Therapy treatment approach, a Play Therapy and Behavioral Therapy based approach to working with children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder, neurodevelopmental disorders, and other developmental disabilities. An overview of autism and other developmental disorders will be presented. The tenets of AutPlay Therapy will be presented including the four component areas of AutPlay and the sequence/phases of treatment. Parent training, group work, and research will be highlighted. Intake and assessment protocols will be presented with case examples. AutPlay foundations of Play Therapy and Behavioral Therapy will be covered and several directive Play Therapy techniques will be demonstrated. Experiential case conceptualization and treatment planning will be presented. Established play based autism treatments will be reviewed as well as current play therapy approaches that have been effective in treating autism and other developmental disabilities.

Learning Objectives: 1) Participants will becoming Certified AutPlay Therapy Providers. 2) Participants will learn all components of AutPlay including: conducting an AutPlay Therapy session, information about autism disorders, screening instruments, treatment planning, and other adjunct play based autism treatments. 3) Participants will learn about established autism treatments specifically treatments that are play therapy based and that easily align with AutPlay Therapy. 4) Participants will learn about the theoretical underpinnings of AutPlay including play therapy models and behavioral therapy. 5) Participants will experience and learn several play therapy interventions used in AutPlay. 6) Participants will gain several resources related to autism and play therapy.

Continuing Education for Mental Health Professionals: This training is approved for 16 CE hrs applicable to the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), the Association for Play Therapy (APT), and IBCCES (Certified Autism Specialist and Autism Certificate). Description:
This workshop is an introductory class to sand tray work within the play therapy setting. It will cover how to work with both children and adults in sand tray as well as specific methods and techniques. By the end of the training, participants will gain the specific skills and knowledge listed below. Note: This training has a cap on the number of participants so register early.
Day One Learning Objectives:
1. Gain knowledge of the history of sand tray work in play therapy
2. Understand the difference between sand tray and sandplay work
3. Have a basic understanding of materials needed for this work, such as miniatures
4. Understand and develop skills needed to process sand tray with adults
5. List several directives for sand tray work in play therapy provided by the instructor and create others when given case examples from the instructor
6. Work through several case studies of adults and gain an understanding of the process that occurred within the treatment
Day Two Learning Objectives:
1. Have an overview of developmental issues that occur within sand tray work with children and other special populations
2. Gain a basic understanding of non-directive play therapy as how it relates to working with children in the sand tray
3. Understand and experience role play of sand tray work as it often occurs with a child
4. Work through several case studies of children and gain an understanding of the process that occurred within the play therapy treatment
5. Learn the latest brain-informed research behind the power of sand tray in play therapy
6. Learn at least two sandtray play therapy activity to use with groups or families
